2011-13 BadgerCare Changes
On July 1, 2012, DHS made changes to BadgerCare eligibility for non-pregnant, non-disabled adults with incomes over 138 percent of the poverty level. The Save BadgerCare Coalition organized around these proposed changes, ensuring that the focus of the discussion remained on the individual enrollees likely to lose coverage, and not just cost-savings. DHS estimated that the original proposal would have caused over 64,000 individuals, including 29,000 children to lose their BadgerCare. The approved changes, that took effect July 1, 2012, are estimated to cause 21,000 individuals to lose their BadgerCare coverage.
